Merchandise trade gap crosses $8.0b in H1

Country’s merchandise trade gap with the rest of the world crossed $8.0 billion level during the first half (H1) of current fiscal year (FY20).

Central bank statistics, released on Tuesday, showed that trade gap recorded at $8.22 billion in July-December period of the current fiscal year.

The trade gap registered 5.38 per cent increase over the same period of past fiscal year (FY19) when it was $7.80 billion.

Provisional estimation of H1 balance of payments (BoPs) also showed that deficit in services trade stood at $1.65 billion during the period under review.

The figure was $1.62 billion in the same period of FY19.
