Meanwhile, BRAC Bank has made a contribution of Tk 50 million to Prime Minister’s relief fund. The bank handed over a cheque through Bangladesh Association of Banks as their support to government for the ongoing battle against the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

Selim RF Hussain, the bank’s Managing Director and CEO, said in his comment, “We can’t assume to be out of danger as the number of infected and ill-fated is mounting everyday around the world. We might have survived the initial stage of the fatal COVID-19 due to the nationwide shutdown - thanks to our government for taking early measures. However, it is important that we remain alert and equipped to tackle situation if it worsens.”

“BRAC Bank took a number of preventive initiatives when COVID-19 first came to light in Bangladesh”, Hussain added, “We’ve been on our toes since then. We started communicating with our customers and employees on ways to prevent the spread. We have taken safety measures for both customers and employees in the 96 branches that we have kept open out of the 187 during the nation-wide shutdown. We're monitoring customer footfall every day and following the directions of Bangladesh Bank. We have kept enough cash in all our 450 ATMs across the country. We have sent 60 per cent of our 9,000 workers to work from home. We have also remained active in the social media with do’s and don’ts, developed and guided by BRAC, to prevent rumors, ignorance and misconceptions that would derail the fight against coronavirus. We believe that our contribution to the prime minister’s fund would further encourage others to come forward and join the battle.”

Earlier, BRAC Bank also announced to add 10% (maximum of Taka 1,000) for every donation made by its credit cardholders to Bidyanondo Foundation using BRAC Bank credit card.
