Bangladesh Consulate General in Dubai has given awards to 52 expatriates and 39 commercially important persons (CIPs) this year for contributing to the country's economy by sending remittance through legal channel.
Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad handed over the awards to the expatriates in Dubai on Thursday night, said a press release, sent by the ministry on Saturday.
The contribution of expatriates to the country's economy is undeniable and honouring them with the awards will increase remittance flow through legal channels in the future, the minister said.
Everyone should be aware that the hard-earned remittances of the expatriates are sent to the country through a formal channel.
Against various proposals including birth registration and passport correction of expatriates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the minister said initiatives would be taken soon in coordination with various ministries to simplify the service.
And other issues will be discussed in the meeting between the two countries to be held before Ramadan.
Expatriates are also included in the Universal Pension Scheme announced by the Prime Minister. So, they will also be benefited by taking that advantage at the right time, he said.
Ambassador of Bangladesh to the UAE Abu Zafar presided over the event while First Secretary (Labour) of Bangladesh Consulate Fakir Muhammad Munawar Hossain conducted it.
In addition to making investment in the country, local business organisations also should work to draw interest of foreign investors towards Bangladesh, the ambassador said.
