Govt realises Tk 3.88b income tax in Rajshahi till Feb

The government has realised income taxes of Tk 3.88 billion in the first eight months of the current 2017-18 fiscal year in Rajshahi zone, more than Tk 1.00 billion in the same time of the previous fiscal.

The number of taxpayers has been increased to 2,12,829 from 1.90,183 in the northern parts of the country in the fiscal year.

Rajshahi Zonal Tax Commissioner Dr Khandakar Ferdous Alam said the zone has fixed target to identify 18,200 new taxpayers in the current fiscal.

He said, "Target has been set to realise taxes of Tk 8.32 billion in the current fiscal and we are trying to attain the target by end of the fiscal."

To expand the tax network, various motivational campaigns like spot assessment, survey and rewards for the taxpayers have been introduced, Alam said on Sunday.

He said the number of taxpayers is increasing gradually in the zone- Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore, Chapainawabgonj and Pabna districts.

They arranged three income-tax camps at Santahar, Chanchkoir and Chatmohar to disseminate ideas and aspects of paying income taxes among rural people, reports BSS.

Some 369 new taxpayers were identified and taxes of Tk 4.36 million were realised through the camps.

Every working day, large numbers of taxpayers are coming to the help desk opened at the Commissionerate's office premises directly to know how they will pay taxes.

The zonal tax commissioner said, "We got significant response from the taxpayers in the tax fairs.”

He said the main thrust of the fair was to inspire the taxpayers in paying more income tax spontaneously coupled with generating more taxpayers.

Last year, they collected Tk 120 million income taxes in the week-long tax fair. Around 49,356 taxpayers, including 921 new ones, received services and 0.10 million returns were submitted.

The fair helps lessening the panic and anxiety among the public in general about the tax payment and return submission, the report said.
