Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed an extension of tax exemptions for six more IT-enabled services until 2024 at the parliament on Thursday.
The services are cloud service, system integration, e-learning platform, e-book publication, mobile application development service and IT freelancing.
In addition, Mr Kamal also proposed to offer tax exemption, subject to certain conditions, for ten years on production of some selective IT hardware if manufactured in Bangladesh.
The existing tax exemption provided to the ICT sector needs to be further expanded in order to take the government’s vision of building Digital Bangladesh one step forward, he pointed out.
The ICT sector is enjoying tax exemption in the existing 22 IT-enabled services, he said.
This will give impetus to the digital transformation process of Bangladesh, will make modern digital services easily available to the citizens at a low cost, and will also make a positive impact in materialising the dream of building Digital Bangladesh, the minister added.
