The government is unlikely to take any new initiative in the upcoming budget as it is election year, said Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday.

Muhith said it while addressing the 39th consultative meeting of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) at Sonargaon Hotel in the city.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) jointly organised the meeting.

Muhith also added that the main goal would be make the existing measures better and focus will be given on this.

“Rather, we would revise the existing measures to make it and perfect or better,” he said.

FBCCI president Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) moderated the discussion while NBR Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan presided over the meeting.

FBCCI vice president Mr Md. Muntakim Ashraf, directors of FBCCI and the heads of member bodies of the organisations also attended.

High officials from different Ministries and NBR also took part in the programme.
