Leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) on Tuesday discussed ways with their Chinese counterparts to boost trade and investment between the two countries.
On the second day of their China visit, they joined a seminar on 'Bangladesh-China Trade and Investment Promotion' held at a hotel at Dalian, reports UNB.
China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) organised the seminar.
The leaders of CCPIT and leading Chinese businessmen were present at the programme.
FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim highlighted the recent economic advancement of Bangladesh and invited the Chinese investors to come up with more investment taking the lucrative offers provided by Bangladesh.
As an important trade partner, the FBCCI chief mentioned, the robust two-way trade with China stood at more than US$12bn in the last fiscal year, with exports from Bangladesh worth US$0.69bn and import worth of US$11.7bn.
The apex trade body leaders are now visiting China as entourage of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Sheikh Fazle Fahim is leading a 59-member business delegation, according to the FBCCI.
The FBCCI leaders will join a business roundtable with the leading Chinese entrepreneurs in Beijing on July 4.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also attend the roundtable.
A business meeting will also be held between FBCCI leaders and the business leaders of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC).
FBCCI President Sheikh F Fahim, Vice Presidents and the Directors of FBCCI will participate at the programme.
The FBCCI leaders are extending their effort to develop the business relations with China, the single largest investment and trade partner of Bangladesh.
More than 400 Chinese companies are now operating their business in Bangladesh in power, textiles, weaving, leather, footwear, construction, engineering, non-banking financial institutions.
Other members of the FBCCI delegation are FBCCI Senior Vice President Md Muntakim Ashraf, Vice Presidents Md Rejaul Kariem Rejnu, Dilip Kumar Agarwala, Md Siddiqur Rahman, Nizam Uddin Ahmed, FBCCI Directors Md Anwar Sadat Sarker, Kazi Aminul Haque, Prabir Kumar Saha, Sujib Ranjan Dash, Md Abu Naser, Md Nizam Uddin, Tabarakul Tosaddek Hossain Khan, Kazi Belayet Hossain, Mohd Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan, Mohammed Riyadh Ali, Benjir Ahmed, Syed Sadat Almas Kabir, Mehdi Ali, Md Munir Hossain, Syed Nurul Islam, Md Hasanuzzaman, Mohammad Munzoor Rahman and MSamiul Haque Shafa.
BGMEA President Rubana Huq, Osama Taseer, President, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Nurul Qayyum Khan, President, Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association and Khandaker Mashiuzzaman, President, Bangladesh Petroleum Tanker Owners Association are also visiting China as members of their delegation.
The FBCCI delegation is expected to return to Dhaka on July 6.
