Emphasis on skilled labour for sustainable economic growth

Experts on Monday has laid emphasis on skilled labour force for attaining sustainable economic growth and interlinked skills development system in accordance to the needs of the labour market.

They also highlighted on increasing productivity and better employment opportunities through an environmentally conscious, inclusive, demand-driven skills development system.

The observations came at a launching ceremony of a European Union (EU) funded ‘Skills 21- Empowering Citizens for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth project’ at a city hotel on Monday.

The event was jointly organised by International Labour Organization (ILO) and Directorate of Technical Educating (DTE).  

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid was present on the occasion as the chief guest with secretary, Technical and Madrasah Education Division (TMED), Ministry of Education Md. Alamgir in the chair.

Nurul Islam Nahid said, “An effective technical and vocational education and training system can play an important role in helping Bangladesh meet many of the social and economic challenges it faces.”

He said skills 21 will make a valuable contribution to place a system that will help transforming our population into a skilled resource and meet our development goals.
