Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today (Sunday) said Bangladesh's gross domestic product (GDP) growth will touch the double digit within the next five years.

The country will make it with completion of the Padma bridge and other mega structures, he said while speaking as the chief guest at a conference of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Dhaka city.

Earlier this month, the multilateral lender ADB forecast the country's GDP growth at 8.0 per cent for the current fiscal year.

One per cent of the GDP growth that will be needed to make it double-digit will come in on completion of the Padma bridge and the rest on completion of the other mega projects, he said.

ADB Country Director of Bangladesh Resident Mission (BRM) Manmohan Prakash also spoke at the event, according to reports.

The BRM organised the event titled 'Harnessing Blockchain Technology for Development' at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city.

Experts from Australia, India, Sweden and USA attended the event, alongside policymakers, senior officials, private sector leaders and technology experts from Bangladesh.
