The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) will release the Global Competitiveness Report 2019 (GCR 2019) and present the findings of the Bangladesh Business Environment Study 2019 (which has contributed to this report) on Wednesday.

The Global Competitiveness Report is the flagship publication of the World Economic Forum (WEF), where CPD is the partner organisation which conducts the Bangladesh chapter of the study. The Global Competitiveness Report 2019 will provide relative rankings of 141 countries based on the perception of 12,879 leading entrepreneurs and business executives taking part in the surveys conducted in the aforesaid countries.

The GCR 2019 is going to present new Global Competitiveness Index 4.0, which is estimated under a revised methodology, taking into consideration the impact of technological shift on the extent of country-level competitiveness. The perception survey covers a broad range of issues, including—infrastructure development, technology, financial environment, foreign trade and investment, domestic competition, business operations and innovation, security and governance, education and human capital, and risks. The report will rank Bangladesh in view of its performance of a comparative setting, based on information for the period January–December, 2018.

Bangladesh Business Environment Study, on the other hand, is an annual exercise undertaken by the CPD, this year’s being the nineteenth of its kind. It shows perception of the entrepreneurs and businessmen of the country regarding contemporary issues and concerns, related to Bangladesh economy.
