Country loses 30pc rawhide every year for improper preservation

The country loses around 30 per cent of total rawhide every year due to improper skinning and environmental protection and preservation, the commerce ministry has said.

Describing rawhides of sacrificial animals as main raw material for the leather industry, the ministry urged all to contribute the country’s economy by removing the skin of sacrificial animals in the right way, reports BSS.

“About 50-60 per cent of the raw material is collected during the Eid-ul-Azha.  The country loses 30 per cent of total rawhide every year for improper skinning and environmental protection,” the ministry said in a notification issued on Tuesday.

Commerce ministry urged all to put the skin with salt on a dry place quickly after removing it.

It also urged all to complete the sacrificial work after wearing masks and hand gloves.

According to the notification, if 6-7 kg of salt is given well, the skin does not decompose easily, so it can be sold at a good price.
