Cost of living in Dhaka increased 6.5pc in 2019: CAB

Living costs increased by 6.5 per cent in Dhaka in the just ended calendar year 2019, which was 6.0 per cent in 2018, Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) study has revealed.

According to the study, prices of goods and service increased by 6.08 per cent in 2019 which was 5.19 per cent in 2018.

Prices of spice, especially onion, flour, meat, fish, egg, vegetable and other produces, house rent showed a hike in 2019 than that of its previous, said the CAB at a press conference.

The press meet titled 'the report on living costs and related aspects to consumers interests' was organised by the consumers association, held at the National Press Club in the capital on Tuesday.

CAB president Ghulam Rahman presented the report, while its secretary Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan, energy advisor Prof Shamsul Alam, among others, spoke on the occasion.

CAB prepared the report taking in account 114 food products, 22 daily essentials and 14 services in Dhaka.

Data of food and essentials were collected from 15 different markets in the city.
