Cabinet body okays 10 purchase proposals

Bangladesh will buy 2.10 million tonnes of refined fuel oil from India and five other countries under a package of purchases approved Wednesday to meet demands in 2023.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) in a meeting with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair approved the procurement proposals.

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) will purchase 60,000 tonnes of diesel from India's Numaligarh Refinery Limited at Tk 5.45 billion for the period from January to December.

Besides, the state corporation will procure 0.204 million tonnes of fuel oil from BSP, Indonesia, ENOC of UAE, IOCL, India, Petrochina of China, PTTT, Thailand, and UNIPEC, China, at Tk182.15 billion during the period from January to June.

Furthermore, the cabinet body endorsed 60,000-tonne fertilizer procurement from the UAE and Russia to meet a growing demand for the chemical soil nutrient.

After the meeting held virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan said the meeting endorsed a total of 10 purchase proposals involving an aggregate amount of Tk 195.35 billion.

Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited of the UAE under the 10th lot at Tk1.50 billion with a per-tonne cost of US$470 against the previous price of US$480, Mr Mahbub said.

And Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure another 30,000 tonnes of urea fertilizer from Russia for Tk 1.49 billion with per-tonne fertilizer costing US$470 against the previous price of US$551.67, he told reporters.

The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would buy some 12,500 tonnes of sugar from Srinnova Ispat Private Limited Kolkata, India, at a cost of around Tk 700.2 million.

The Ministry of Railways will appoint joint-venture OCG, Japan, EGIS of France, HSS of Malaysia, and SODEV Consult International Limited, Bangladesh, as consultants at Tk 1.94 billion for a project titled 'Technical Assistance for Railway Connectivity Improvement Project' for conducting feasibility study and detailed designs for some 11 sub-projects.

Moreover, the CCGP meeting approved three proposals from the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and another one variation proposal from Dhaka WASA.
