The two-day Bangladesh Development Forum (BDF) in the capital ended Thursday seeking higher assistance from the overseas development partners to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The government of Bangladesh, development partners (DPs) and the private sector pledged to form a partnership for graduating Bangladesh from Least Developed Country (LDC) to developing nation.
The forum also came up with some recommendations for a number of priority areas including scaling up of investment, developing agriculture, mitigating climate change, attracting higher foreign direct investment (FDI), extending private sector’s engagement in the development of health, quality education and women empowerment, improving urban service delivery, financing SDG and the graduation of Bangladesh from the LDC status.
The programme ended followed by a closing session where Finance Minister AMA Muhith was present as the chief guest.
The minister also briefed the journalists about the outcome of the BDF 2018 at the end of the closing session.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the programme.
Director-General and CEO of OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID)Suleiman Jasir Al-Herbish, World Bank Vice President for South Asia Region Annette Dixon, Vice President of Asian Development Bank Wencai Zhang, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Minoru Masujima and other national and international high level delegates attended the event.
A total of nine discussion sessions were organised at the forum where government, DPs, civil society and private sector representatives took part.
