Bangladesh economy performing well, claims Muhith

‘Bangladesh economy performing well’

Expecting another decade of vibrant economic activities, Finance Minister AMA Muhith today (Sunday) said Bangladesh’s economy has been performing well for the last 10 years.

“We have managed our economy well in the last 10 years… I think, we should have another decade of regional cooperation and growth of trade,” he said, speaking as the chief guest at an international conference on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) organised the conference titled “Role of Professional Accountants towards achieving SDGs”.

United Nations Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) Resident Representative in Bangladesh Mia Seppo was present as the guest of honour while Head of the Sustainable Development for the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Pietro Bertazzi delivered the keynote speech.

In the last 10 years, Muhith said, the government is working for increasing the effective demand in the economy as it is the only way to take forward economy. “Increasing the demand of economy means more people come into the economic activities. As of more people, we have more goods and we produced better wealth,” he added.

He said Bangladesh is achieving success in poverty alleviation by increasing the demand (of economy) as it is expanding the market and trade.

In order to increase trade, the finance minister said, the government is working for enhancing trade relations all over the world, including in the South Asian region, reports BSS.

Among others, ICMAB President M Selim and General Secretary Abdur Rahman were present.
