Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal urged global development and trading partners to extend support to Bangladesh during its graduation process to developing nation.
“A growing number of LDCs (least Developed Countries) are meeting the graduation threshold including Bangladesh. It is important to bring the vulnerabilities during transition period into the mainstream sustainable development discourse”, said he.
The minister said it on Tuesday while speaking at the general debate of the high-level political forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations in New York, USA.
Mr Kamal is representing Bangladesh at the forum, said Planning Ministry spokesperson Gazi Towhidul Islam.
He said LDCs are highly vulnerable and exposed to various kinds of shocks and crisis including those related to environment and climate change.
He urged the global community to reinvigorate efforts for mobilising resources and technical capacities to build resilience against shocks and adapt with changed circumstances.
The minister said the LDCs and newly graduated economies are facing serious threats including increased burden of debt, lesser amount of ODA and other impediments to their future trade expansions.
