At least 90 per cent branches of the country’s commercial banks are now fully online, according to the latest statistics of the central bank.
It showed that the total number of branches of 59 state-owned, private, specialised and foreign commercial banks stood at 10,592 at the end of April this year while the number was 10,568 at the end of December last.
The number of fully online branches of these banks also increased to 9,580 at the end of April this year which is 90.45 per cent of the total branches currently under operation across the country, as estimated by the e-Banking and e-Commerce Statistics Unit of the Statistics Department of Bangladesh Bank.
It also showed that the number of total branches of banks and total online branches in March was similar to April which means no bank opened a new branch during the period under review.
The latest Quarterly Review Report on the Green Banking, also released by the central bank, however, showed that the total number of banks’ branches stood at 10,553 at the end of March of which 9,577 were fully online.
