Moudud demands Law, Home ministers to resign over Kushtia attack

BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Law Minister Anisul Huq and Home Minister Asaduzzan Khan over the attack on Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman on Kushtia court premises.

"Mahmudur Rahman's blood was shed on the Kushtia court's sacred premises, and the attack was made in front of police," he said, according to UNB.

Speaking at a human chain programme, the BNP leader further said, "I think the Law Minister and the Home Minister should quit."

He said the Law Minister still could not take any step to ensure the trial of the incident while the Home Minister could not arrest anyone in connection with it.

Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad organised the programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club protesting the attack on Mahmudur Rahman.

Moudud, a BNP standing committee member, termed the attack a stigmatised incident for the nation, and said people have got stunned and aggrieved the way ruling party men attacked Mahmudur.

He also alleged that the attack was made on political ground to kill the Amar Desh acting editor.

The BNP leader demanded the government immediately arrest the attackers and mete out exemplary punishment to them.

He alleged that government has indirectly established its control on the media and obliterated the press freedom to hang onto power.

Moudud hoped that the current political situation in the country will change significantly within the next two months. "Uniting people we'll take to the streets to oust the current government, release Khaleda Zia from jail and ensure a free and fair election."
