'Missing' BNP leader Sadat on 3-day remand

A Dhaka court granted on Sunday a three-day remand to interrogate BNP leader Syed Sadat Ahmed, who was arrested on Saturday night after four months of 'disappearance'.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Pranab Kumar Whui passed the order in an arson case filed with Ramna Police Station.

Earlier, investigation officer of the case Sub-inspector Md Saiful Islam of Detective Branch of police placed Sadat before the court seeking a 10-day remand.

Sadat's family said, he was abducted from Dhaka’s Banani on August 22 this year.

Later Sadat was implicated in the case over the arson of a car in Moghbazar almost two years ago.

Police detained him in the city’s Rampura on Saturday in the arson case.

According to the case document, a car was set afire from a BNP demonstration on Jan 9, 2015, when the party was enforcing a countrywide rail, road and waterways blockade.

The driver of the car, who had suffered severe burns, died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Jan 15, it said.

According to bdnews24, Sadat is also a vice-president of the BNP’s Chittagong South unit. He was a member of the party’s Central Executive Committee.

He is also the managing director of ABN Group.
